SKYFchain : Deployment of Unmanned Logistics on the Blockchain

Many would agree that the development of the logistics industry has reached its limits. The stumbling-stone is still the human factor. Human labor makes industry less reliable, more expensive and vulnerable when it comes to fraud and theft. 


The giants in this industry have already discovered that only fearless innovations may inspire further growth. For instance, Amazon is implementing drones delivery very actively (it is yet only an internal service, but who know what it will become within a couple of years?). It is a proven fact: exploiting drones in cargo delivery allows businesses to cut costs, to make the process more efficient, and speed it up significantly.

The only problem with the transition to the unmanned logistics is the responsibilities issue. The drones require maintenance, they need to communicate in some way with the client and with each other. Various organizations need to keep control of what is happening with a drone during its life-cycle. How to define — or, rather, registrate — these responsibilities?

The SKYFChain project offers a solution. As a spin-off of the SKYF project (the first industrial heavy cargo drone), it provides the industry with a unique operational platform functioning on the blockchain. What does that mean exactly?

About Skyfchain 

SKYFChain is a platform that would unite all the participants of the market. It provides a perfectly clear system of registration of all the processes occurring to a drone during its life-cycle. The system is equally accessible for businesses, financial, controlling and governmental institutions, and of course the robots themselves.

At the moment, all the processes in the branch are done by humans. On SKYFChain, it will be fully automated. The platform will allow following literally every event in a drone’s life as registered automatically: production, maintenance, application opportunities, routes, operations. Basically, this means running whole missions by unmanned vehicles right from a laptop — how amazing is that?

SKYFChain will allow to decrease the costs in the industry and reduce the risks it faces now. Operations will become more transparent, more safe, more efficient, and much quicker. This is exactly what businesses are waiting for. By the same token, authorities, insurance companies, and financial organizations are interested in SKYFChain to the same extent: the transition to it will make operations control much easier.

The pre-ICO of SKYFT tokens that began on the 1st of March has already reached the goal set. There is obviously much interest in the project and investors are ready to become the ambassadors of the SKYFChain and spread a word about it. This is not surprising: the appeal of blockchain is in the possibility to create decentralized and unchanged registers supported by many parties at a time, and this is exactly what the freight industry needs at the moment.

Since information on a blockchain platform cannot be hacked, damaged, or altered, the value of the information stored in the chain increases enormously.

The project 
The SKYFchain project can be divided into two sections. First, the development of their own drone hardware, which is to be used in the logistics and agriculture for transport purposes. This is an already operational, patented Hexacopter with two gas driven main rotors and 4 smaller control rotors. Overall, the drone can carry a maximum weight of 250 kg and has a maximum range of 350 km under load of 50 kg.


The second section refers to the blockchain architecture that is the heart of the system. Token Sale uses an ERC-20 token. In the long term, the token should run both through the Ethereum, as well as a closed private block chain. The additional private blockchain is intended to simplify development and support, and to decide on the best solution for individual problems. The focus is on the ability of the system to manage trusted data and control over unmanned assets of customers via smart contracts. These include: logistics companies, insurance companies, leasing companies, banks or government agencies. By using the SKYF token, they should have significant cost savings in payment transactions and the rights of use of the drones on the Blockchain be regulated. Although the tokens are issued in the Ethereum Blockchain, they are also fully utilized in the SKYFchain. In order to ensure the synchronization between the private and the public Ethereum Blockchain, payment channels, similar to those of the Lightning Network at Bitcoin, should be used. In this case, a connection between the SKYFchain and the public Ethereum network is set up by means of a special transaction (payment channel). This procedure allows an extremely fast execution of the transactions.


It is not yet clear what the SKYF blockchain should be based on, but three options are used: 
  1. Forge Ethereum Blockchain 
  2. Self-developed Blockchain 
  3. Exonum Libraries or an instance of the R3 Corda 
Blockchain Another interesting fact is that the transaction fees should be split across multiple instances: 
  • 50% goes to holders of Super Nodes 
  • 25% goes to the Token Holder 
  • 25% to the Community Development Fund 
The Community Development Fund is used to reward partners and developers and to further expand the system. 

In addition to its own SKYF drone, other autonomous transport systems are to be integrated into the system over the long term. These include autonomous trucks as well as transport ships and much more.

A little bit of information about drones
Dron – in the technological context, it’s an unmanned aerial vehicle. UAVs can be remotely controlled and can fly autonomously with the built-in software (flight plan), working in close connection with onboard sensors and GPS systems.
In recent past, unmanned aerial vehicles had exclusively military applications, where they were originally used to destroy aerial targets and collect intelligence information. Now drones have been widely used, ranging from search and rescue operations, surveillance, weather monitoring, traffic, fire extinguishing, for personal purposes, business with an emphasis on photo and video shooting, in agriculture and even in cargo delivery services.
The first unmanned aerial vehicle was realized in 1935 using the example of the full-size biplane De Havilland DH82B “Queen Bee”. It was equipped with a radio receiver and a control servo located in the back seat. Later it was used as a live target for training firing from anti-aircraft installations with the goal of training artillerymen. In total, 380 De Havilland DH82B “Queen Bee” aircraft were built. The term “drone” was born thanks to this historic event.
Integration of unmanned aerial vehicles and the Internet has made it possible to use drones everywhere in enterprises. Drones operate on IoT terrestrial sensor networks, help agricultural companies monitor lands and crops, energy companies use drones to inspect power lines and related equipment.
The great demand for commercial and private drones also caused a number of problems related to safety, regarding the consequences of collisions and loss of control. In this regard, many countries at the legislative level have introduced a number of amendments to the air code. There were no-fly zones.

How It Works? 
The blockchain platform SKYFchain will record all the important events happening to a cargo robot within the supply chain. Every record made will have an own cost (denominated in a traditional currency and depending on the frequency of the transaction and other factors).
The system will generate invoices for a client to pay in any suitable way. The money received by the system will then be automatically converted into SKYFT tokens, as the smart contract logic only recognizes tokens and not the traditional currencies. After the invoice is paid, the operations can be processed by the drones. The platform will be able to implement financial calculations and logistics schemes of any delicacy.
SKYFChain will make the interaction between operators and their customers significantly easier. Moreover, it will give the institutions involved (think of financial and governmental organizations) a perfect instrument to control the assets. As a result, the SKYFchain distribution system will unite all the participants of the market. The sustainable development of the SKYFchain will be insured by automatically transferring 25% of every token used in the system to the Development Fund.
On March 1, 2018, the pre-ICO of SKYFchain was launched. The platform released 1.2 billion SKYFT tokens at a price of 3.9 cents. It is already pretty clear that the investors love the idea of SKYFchain. And, this is exactly what SKYF was counting on: to see an enthusiastic response from the market and make sure the project will draw enough ambassadors to spread their ideas further.

Conclusion
